Millie
Hi, I’m Millie. I have a sad story to tell you about what happened to me. First, I am a chocolate, female, I am spayed, and housebroken and I am about 3 years old.
Well, my owners moved out of their house. Before they left they chained me in the woods behind the house and left me there. It was weeks before anyone found me. Everyone says that they cannot believe that I am still alive.
A neighbor found me and called the shelter. When the shelter workers got there, I was so emaciated and dehydrated that I could not hold up my head or wag my tail. They thought I was going to die.
I was taken to the vet. I weighed only 36 lbs, my eyes were sunken in so far that I couldn’t see. You could see my ribs and hip bones. I wasn’t far from death. The vet put me on IV’s for a while. As I felt better I was able to eat and drink. When I was able to stand,I was sent back to the shelter. Because I was a cruelty case, I had to stay at the shelter for while. Then when I was available for adoption, no one wanted me. And I had even gained some weight, I weighed 53 lbs. Granted, my eyes were sad and my coat was dull, but I thought someone would want me!
The shelter finally called LRR. They came to get me. I was still really thin, and needed some work. In addition to my poor health, I was afraid of people. Do you wonder why??
Well, I went into foster care and the LRR people have been working with me a lot. I now weigh 65 lbs, I love to play with the other dogs, I am a chow hound (I will even steal food from the counter–sorry!).
My biggest problem now is my fear of people and what they are going to do to me. So, I need someone that will help me continue to be healthy, and will help me trust people. The vet says I am ready to go if I can find a family that will work with me to trust them.
I need to be able to go for car rides, get petted and hugged, go for walks and learn to trust people again. Will you help? Please let LRR know if you can help me. I’ll be waiting!
UPDATE: December 7, 2005 Thank you everyone for your well wishes. They seem to be working. I have made quite a bit of progress in the last two months. I have gained several more pounds and am getting closer to my ideal body weight.
I still need more exposure to different situations and things but I am really warming up. I have started going to my foster mom, sitting next to her and waiting for some good old petting. I will give kisses when I trust and I get super excited when my foster mome gets home from work. She lets me out of my crate and I am just a blaze of brown.
I hope to have a very happy holidays and will be looking forward to start meeting some families in the new year! Happy Holidays-
January 15, 2006 Today I had a photo session in the backyard and family room….check out all of my new pictures and I think you can see what great improvement I have made!
