Buster

Happy greetings, I’m Buster. I’m a neutered yellow boy, house-broken, crate-trained, up-t0-date on all my shots. My birthday is 2/23/06, so that makes me a little over 2 years old. I’m sure if you are reading my profile, you have already visited our Reading Room and know that labs can remain puppy-like till we’re 5 or 6 years old. Well, let me tell you, I am well on my way towards proving that a true statement.

The story of how I came to LRR is like one of those soap opera dramas. I came into a shelter as a stray one day and a family came to claim me as their own and took me home. Well, shortly thereafter, ANOTHER family came in to claim me as THEIR own, this time with pictures and a microchip number. So, the first family brought me back to the shelter to get scanned.. Turns out, I DID have a microchip and I WAS the second family’s lost dog. (Just goes to show you how important those microchips are!) So, I went home with the second family, which was really my first family. Then, after all that, I found myself back in the shelter a while later, but this time there was no response when the shelter tried to contact my family. Did you follow all that??? I’m still waiting to hear back from Jerry Springer about telling my story on his show!

Anyway, the shelter folks are nice, but I was tired of being a frequent flyer there, if you know what I mean. Luckily, the LRR folks thought I had tons of potential and let me hitch a ride out of there, not without a quick bath first. Apparently, I was a little stinky or something.

A few more baths later, I’m having a blast in my foster homes. I think they’re enjoying having me too, since they all swap funny stories about me. I am very easily entertained with toys (or even pinecones!) and will toss them around, chase them, and pounce on them. I’m told I am an amusing sight to behold when I do this. Have you ever known a dog who likes to play hockey? Well, I do! I like to swat my food and water dishes around on the floor. (Note to self: Remember not to do this while there is still water in them. People don’t find that AS amusing.)

You should know I’m a pretty active boy, so I need to find an adopter who is willing to do things like take me to daycare, go for long walks, or play ball every day. Having another dog for me to play with is also a great way for me to burn off some energy. I get along great with the other dogs in my foster homes and we chase, wrestle and play tug of war with each other. Cats are a different story, so it’s probably a good idea for me to find a home without any.

Since I’m still such a goofy puppy, my foster families are working hard to teach me things and refine my manners. I know all the basic commands like sit, down, stay, come and paw, but need regular reinforcement. I’m a very motivated student and love the treats and praise I get when I do what they ask. I’m still trying hard to remember not to jump on people when I get excited and that not everything that can go in my mouth should. For that reason, even though I like children, I’m not ready to live with very young ones. I think going to obedience classes will really help me bond with a new family and provide some structured learning.

The last thing you need to know about me is that I do have a sweet, affectionate side. Though I’m on the go playing a lot, I do like to settle down and get a good snuggle and tummy rub. I might even be persuaded to curl up on the couch with you or hop into your bed if you’d let me…
