Happy Tails: Our Success Stories
From time to time, adopters (or their LRR dogs!) will send us stories and photos of their new lives together. We love hearing from you and are delighted to share these stories here on our web site.
Melvin (formerly Riley)
Melvin has been in my family for two years now. Our early days were a tad difficult. Life at my home was new to him, he paced. He woke (way too early) and was unsure of how things went. I’m thinking it was tough for him to go from being left every day in a fenceless yard (previous life) to being on a schedule and going on leashed walks with me. Old life, animal control. New life, learning to be loved. It was tough for me to adjust also. As Melvin entered my life, my angel dog Max was leaving us.
Buster (formerly Buster)
In Memory of Buster who crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 2010
Polly
Hello again- I checked in with you about a year ago with my good news on a Rally title, this year I thought I would let you know that I am now a therapy dog.
Duke
Duke is the sweetest boy ever! He settled in with us and his new brother (Rigger, a 2-year old yellow lab) very quickly and uneventfully. Duke absolutely adores his Dad and has eyes for no one else when he’s around. Mom comes in a close second, though, and he loves to snuggle with her, too.
Jake (formerly Scrabble)
First I wanted to let you know that Scrabble has changed his name to Jake. We didn’t intend to change his name but he didn’t respond to Scrabble very often and we picked a short, crisp name. We sat in the family room and tossed out names. When I said Jake, he whipped his head around, came over and put his paw on my hand. So, Jake it is!
Zeke
Zeke has been a happy part of our family for 4 ½ years – we adopted him in February 2005. Zeke has adjusted well to his new life style. He still dances for food every night prior to dinner time approaching, and he goes on a three walks a day to stay in shape. His mid-day walk is with our dog walker who has been walking him the past 2 years.
Amos
Hi, I’m Amos and I think I’m becoming “Famous Amos” in my new town. (Well, maybe not as famous as the cookies but I’m working on it ) All the people I meet just think I am so cute, well behaved, and such a great dog. Everyone keeps asking Mom and Dad where they got me. They always tell them all about LRR and what a great organization they are. I think they are pretty great also and thank them for “saving” me. I can tell that my new Mom and Dad love me very much.
Jake
It’s been two years now that Jake has joined our family and he still acts like a puppy even though he is now 7 years old. I would never have believed that adopting a 5 year old could be so perfect for us.
Sam
Hi! We’re Sam and Midnight and we’re really, really happy! We were brothers in our first home. Unfortunately we were both surrendered to LRR earlier this year. We went to live in separate foster homes and met lots of great new people and lab buddies.
Midnite (formerly Midnight)

Kamri
Hello family and friends, Happy July! Not only is it the month to celebrate America, but this month is also the one year mark from when I met my new family.
Gil
Drew and I were cleaning outdoor furniture and opening up the pool. Gil is such a water boy, and he could care less that he gets wet and dirty, unlike my little prissy Riley. He was drenched with water, and proceeded to find a muddy spot in the yard. He tried to take matters in his own paws in the last pic and cleaned up nicely.
Tucker
We wanted to give LRR an update on Tucker. So far everything seems to be going well. We took him to the vet for his initial check up and was confirmed a healthy dog, weighing 85lbs. The vet and the receptionist oooouued and aaaawwed at what a beautiful and sweet dog he was. Of course, we agreed :-)
Austin
It’s me Austin. Mom said that I should let everyone know how I’m doing since I’ve been in my forever home for 1 year now. Well to start out, I have a big brother Jimmie, he’s great, we are together all the time, except for when Jimmie does something naughty like stealing and eating the remote, that’s when I like to lay on Mom’s feet so she knows it wasn’t me being naughty.
Hilda
Hello to all my friends at LRR! I’m Hilda and I came to live with my forever family in February 2007. I get called all sorts of things and I answer to them all. I get called “Hilda Mae” and “Hilda Beast the Wildebeest” pretty often.
